On Radio-Gram today it’s politics and politicians, we have an update on the stream saver bill’s progress in Kentucky’s general assembly, a report by new community correspondent – Jerome Shaw – on what students and faculty at Pikeville College think about the ongoing contest between presidential candidates – Hilary Clinton and Barak Obama, and a opinion from Pam Shingler on Kentucky lawmakers decision to alter the states Commonwealth Accountability Test. All that, after the Regional Roundup and the Coal Report. Last month on Radio-Gram we had a story about I Love Mountains Day – a day of intensive citizen lobbying in Frankfort, Kentucky’s State Capitol. One of the bills receiving a lot of attention that day was house bill 164 – called the stream saver bill by sponsors and supporters – the bill would ban the practice of dumping mine waste into streams, including so called ephemeral streams such as those found in the headwaters region of eastern Kentucky. After failing to get voted on in the House Natural resources committee for the last several sessions – the bill was maneuvered into the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee last week – and two days of hearings commenced. The Community Correspondents Corps produced this report on the proceedings.
For the first time in recent memory we have an actual contest between two popular an unique candidates for president, one that is lasting longer than anyone expected. And so Kentucky residents who are registered Democrats – find they will get to choose after all. Community Correspondent Jerome Shaw talked with students and faculty at Pikeville College about the election and the candidates. Last on Radio-Gram Pam Shingler offers a few thoughts on a plan to change Kentucky’s standardized testing methods.
