James J. Lorence will discuss his new book A Hard Journey: The Life of Don West on Monday's edition of Appalachian Attitude, 4:30-6 p.m.

Born in north Georgia, West spent his long life organizing coal miners and textile workers throughout the Appalachians, championing racial equality, preaching, teaching and writing. He was in the class of 1929 at Lincoln Memorial University, which also included famed writers James Still and Jesse Stuart, and was a co-founder of the Highlander Center in east Tennessee.
