Improving the water infrastructure is the goal of a 5.4 million dollar funding package to the town of Wise, Virginia. The Coalfield Progress reports that the combination of grants and loans is from the federal Rural Development Program. The money will go for upgrading the town’s water treatment plant and increasing water storage capacity at the Bear Creek reservoir. The projects are expected to get underway in February of next year. Mayor Cliff Carson said – quote – We’re talking about truly dramatic improvements to the town’s water system – end quote.

COAL REPORT May 13, 2008
The operators of the Crandall Canyon mine in Utah, where nine miners died last year, withheld information from the government, according to a Congressional study. The study said that the deadly accident would probably never have happened if the Murray Energy company had given the government the information it held. In March 2007 the mine suffered a collapse or bump that clearly indicated the mine was becoming unstable. But the company never told the government about the bump, as it was required to do, instead going ahead with plans for similar mining elsewhere in the mine. In August 2007 another bump killed six miners; three more died during rescue efforts.

A while ago someone I know got a fortune in a cookie that read - "Your truest life is in your dreams awake". I had long thought of myself as soldier in an army of dreams, and I find that what transpires in that realm can be as real as anything. This Radio-Gram is made of dreams sweet and strange. After the Regional Roundup and the Coal Report

WMMT Process for Planning our new schedule
Changes to our schedule are being considered so that we can respond to the desires of our listeners and enhance financial support for WMMT while remaining true to ourselves. At this time only initial proposed changes exist. Everything is in play and subject to change. WMMT will conduct three very meaningful public hearings. These will take place from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20, Wednesday, May 28, and Monday, June 16 in the Appalshop Theater at 91 Madison Avenue in Whitesburg. Reactions at those meetings will directly shape the final proposal for schedule change.
