Roberta Webb. author of Dark and Bloody Ground, will be the guest on Appalachian Attitude, Monday, Feb. 4, at the new time of 4 p.m. The book is a saga spanning several generations of a family living on Pine Mountain, straddling the Kentucky-Virginia line, from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Murder, moonshining and mining predominate, but in a context of strength, intelligence and love -- no stereotypes here. Webb, who was born Roberta Hayes, grew up in Jenkins and now lives in Texas.

Dave Evans, one of Bluegrass music’s most popular performers, will be in concert at 88.7 WMMT’s Bluegrass Express Live, Thursday Feb 7th at the Appalshop Theater in downtown Whitesburg and live on Appalshop radio, WMMT.
Dave Evans, with his band River Bend, is one of the all time favorites in bluegrass music and is among the most requested performers on WMMT. He has been performing since 1968 and has been a part of such fine bands as Red Allen & the Kentuckians, The Boys from Indiana, the Goins Brothers and Larry Sparks & the Lonesome Ramblers. In 1978 he formed Dave Evans & River Bend and, as they say, the rest is Bluegrass Music History. Call 606 633-0108 for your reservation!

Phyllis Eagle Tree of Louisville will be the guest on Appalachian Attitude on Monday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. She recently published a book titled Roll The Wheel, an examination in photos and stories of the life of the late Mae Phillips of Harlan County. Eagle Tree shadowed Mrs. Phillips, a classic Mountain Mama, for more than a year and came up with this loving tribute.

Guest hosts Mikie Burke, T.J. Caudill, Tommy Anderson and Eli Gover discuss a new youth community development effort. The Reckon Ball is a youth-based organization consisting of Letcher County youth. The Reckon Ball was formed out of love and dedication for the community and it's youth, their mission statement is as follows: We, the outspoken youth of Eastern Kentucky, have envisioned a brighter future for ourselves and have come together to create a youth organization that we call "The Reckon Ball." The Reckon Ball seeks to assist local youth in the development of skills and bring unity to our community.
