Learning Center :: About Learning at Appalshop

The Appalshop Learning Center’s mission is to broaden and deepen
the participation of a wide range of audiences with Appalshop’s work—locally, nationally and internationally—so that diverse communities experience the richness of telling and listening to community stories.

Appalshop’s multidisciplinary programming involves many learning opportunities whether that be

training youth and adults in digital storytelling and documentary production

linking older and younger musicians in the practice of traditional music and storytelling

screening Appalshop films and videos and facilitating discussions of this documentary work

providing volunteer deejays with the tools and opportunity to program and broadcast their own radio shows

working with community members to recast their community’s stories into performances

developing standards-based curricula around the range of Appalshop arts programming
