Tell
us what you think about the Headwaters programs

>From
a viewer in New York:
I was
worried when I saw that a documentary on a serious social problem
was set in Appalachia. No
matter how much sympathy for the victims, it's so easy to show people
from this region as poor, ignorant, and dysfunctional.
I
was amazed therefore by the documentary "Shelter." It
conveyed the unique feeling of the Appalachian area, it did not
hide the desperation and
limited horizons of some battered women yet it preserved the dignity
and
humanity of every person interviewed. Even unsympathetic officials
and
lawyers were given latitude to express themselves so that their
viewpoint
emerged with consistency and integrity though we understood how
they can
compound a battered women's problems.
I congratulate
your station and the film makers for a quietly spectacular
achievement. I hope to see more films like this from Appalachia.
Sincerely,
Barbara Garson |
