Joe Begley died at his home at the C.B. Caudill Store on March 27, 2000. He was 81, having been born on the Left Fork of Beaver Creek near Maytown in Floyd County on Feb. 23, 1919.

He continued to fight to protect the land and people of eastern Kentucky until a few days before he died.

The family has asked that contributions in his memory be made to the C.B. Caudill Store & History Center, Appalshop, 91 Madison Ave, Whitesburg, Ky 41858.
